“In a Violent Nature” a new brand of horror packaged in a classic box

Described as an "ambient slasher", the film follows a mute killer who targets a group of teenagers in the Ontario wilderness, with the events observed largely from the killer's perspective.

Premiering on January 22, 2024, at the Sundance Film Festival, as part of the festival's "Midnight" program. It is set to be released on the streaming service Shudder later that year. It emphasizes static long take shots, and features no musical score.

Clocking in at 94 minutes, it is promised by the films director Chris Nash ( ABCs of Death 2 (2014), Lifechanger (2018) and The Void (2016) to be a brutal thriller unlike anything we have seen.

I have heard similar promises and very few have made good on them. Although Canadian horror has delivered some of the best films from the golden era (Happy Birthday To Me and My Bloody Valentine).

A short teaser in available online as a full length trailer should be out soon.

More updates coming soon.
